October London defies categorization with a soulful yet contemporary sound that feels both singular and familiar. His latest album, October Nights, conjures images of crisp a u t u m n evenings by a fireplace, establishing him as a premier R&B artist. The lead single, “She Keeps Calling,” captures the turmoil of a passionate on-and-off relationship, showcasing his versatile vocals that oscillate between c o m m a n d i n g and airy, evoking the genre’s greatest performers. In “3rd Shift,” London celebrates a devoted lover, blending funky guitar licks with playful harmonies. His vocals shift from a delicate pitch to a deep, seductive tone as he croons about his eagerness to return home. The song’s sensuality is palpable as he likens their time together to a private cooking show, slyly instructing his paramour to “add the bacon on the side, ooh that’s right.” “Don’t Waste Your Time” serves as a poignant farewell to a relationship that has outlived its course. Over gentle drums and lingering strings, London’s fragile voice conveys the melancholy of a love gone wrong. Reflecting on an opportunistic flame who drained his bank accounts, London admits, “I feel like a fool,” while “TIME” approaches a similar concept with heartfelt vulnerability, as his quivering voice pleads, “don’t you leave me now.” October Nights demonstrates London’s ability to transcend comparisons to Motown legends, showcasing his unique identity and continued evolution. With personal and assured music, he carves out his own niche in R&B history. This album cements October London as not just a rebirth of a beloved predecessor but as an artist with a distinct, inimitable presence in the genre.
